Westminster Group Wins UK Ministry of Justice Contract
Westminster awarded 4-year contract to provide security services for UK Prisons - 18 January 2010

Westminster Group has entered into a four year framework contract with the UK Ministry of Justice to provide security services for UK Prisons. Westminster chief executive Peter Fowler said the prestigious long term contract represents a valuable endorsement of its standing in the security industry.

"The Ministry of Justice rightly require demanding standards of their contractors and I believe Westminster is well placed to meet these exacting requirements", Peter Fowler commented, "Given the scale of the Ministry of Justice's operations we are hopeful that we can further develop the supply relationship to incorporate more of Westminster's products and services in the MoJ's security and protection solution."

The UK Ministry of Justice oversees the operation of 139 prisons in England and Wales with varying levels of security requirements. The framework contract will last four years, ending on 30 November 2013. Financial details were not disclosed.

Westminster is a global security company which is represented in over 40 countries; holds exclusive distribution and supply agreements for key security equipment. Specifically to the UK prison service, Westminster's range of security systems can enable the efficient and effective movement of inmates in secure areas, through the control of entry and exit points.

Under the Westminster International operating subsidiary, the company offers an extensive range of security products which are designed to be effective in prisons and detention centres. Access and entry point systems control the flow of people moving into and out of secure areas, as well as within the facilities themselves. A variety of surveillance systems can closely monitor movements both in and around the facilities. The company's detection systems give security personnel the equipment needed to identify specific prohibited items, including narcotics. Additionally Staff Protection Systems and personal protection equipment can be deployed to security personnel and the facility's other operations staff.

This latest contract win adds further diversification to the company's expansive client list, which includes major international organisations such as the United Nations, several government agencies and military divisions such as the US Air Force and the British Navy. Whilst in the private sector the security company's clients include international resource companies such as BP, Shell and StatOil as well other blue chip organisations in the telecoms, aviation and electronics industry.
