WGPro-5000 RF Detector

The WGPro-5000 RF Detector uses the latest surface mount technology to provide very high sensitivity across a wide frequency range that ensures detection and location of even the weakest radio transmissions such as those used in covert listening devices.

WGPro-5000 RF Detector

VHP, UHF and Microwave transmitters will be detected by the WGPro-5000, in fact, anything that transmits a radio signal between 3.0 MHz and 5.0 GHz.

Such devices include miniature room transmitters, mains powered transmitters, telephone transmitters, video transmitters, mobile telephones, walkie-talkies, etc. The WGPro-5000 will even detect emissions by microwave ovens.

Main Features

  • Operating Voltage: 9V (FP3 Alkaline);
  • Current Consumption: Standby 50 mA;
  • Full Signal Strength: 160 mA;
  • Vibrate Mode: +60 mA;
  • Frequency Range: 30MHz to 50 GHz;
  • Antenna Socket: MCX SO Ohm;
  • Dimensions: 97x58x22 mm.

Signal Strength

The signal strength display consists of an array of 10 LEDs, the more LEDs that illuminate, the stronger the signal being detected, to pinpoint the precise location of a transmitter.

Audible Signal Strength

The signal strength can also be monitored by connecting die supplied earphone to the EAR socket, as the received signal strength increases, so does the audible 'click' fate.

Sensitivity Switch

In normal use this switch should be set to HI, this will ensure even the weakest signals are detected; if a detected signal is particularly strong and all the signal strength LEDs are lit in a wide area, reduce the sensitivity by switching to LO so that less LEDs are lit and precise location can be found.

This setting should also be used in areas of high background radio signals such as in city centres or near to radio masts.

Silent Vibration Mode

In normal use this switch should be set id OFF, if however you wish to check for covert transmitters without alerting anyone, set the switch to the ON position.

If any signals are detected, the WGPro-5000 will vibrate, this facility allows you to keep the detector concealed on your person, in a jacket pocket for example .

Low Battery Indicator

Due to the high sensitivity circuitry, silent vibrator and 10 LED display, the WGPro-5000 has high current consumption, as the battery weakens, the sensitivity of the device will be reduced.

If the LO BAT LED lights, you must change the battery before any further use.

Sweeping Techniques

When 'sweeping' a room it is recommended that the whole area is covered twice, once with the antenna positioned vertically and once with it horizontally.

This will reduce the chance of missing any particularly weak or directional signals, certain covert devices have no external antenna and therefore give low emissions.

These are usually mains powered devices such as 2 and 3 way adaptors or wall sockets, to check for such transmitters, ensure the mains switches are on and brush the antenna within a couple of inches of the adaptor or socket.

Telephone transmitters generally only transmit when the line is in use, these must be 'swept' with the telephone handset lifted; also brush the antenna over telephone sockets and junction boxes whilst the handset is lifted.

Supplied Accessories

  • Semi-rigid antenna for normal use;
  • Flexible antenna for body-worn use;
  • Free oscillating transmitter for testing Mono earpiece.
