Solar Powered Covert Infra-Red Lighting

Solar Powered Covert Infra-red LightingThe Solar Powered, Covert, Infra Red Luminaire utilises high current emitters suitable for CCD/CMOS cameras and is designed for installation in locations that require covert illumination to enhance the capability and use of Generation 3 Night Vision Goggles, Night Vision Binoculars, and Night Vision Scopes used by guarding patrols in areas where mains electricity is not available.

The luminaire will efficiently supply a consistent level of uninterrupted covert infra red lighting typically from dusk to dawn, or to preset programmed periods.

Night vision optical equipment works by collecting the tiny amounts of light, including the lower portion of the infrared light spectrum, that are present but may be imperceptible to our eyes, and amplifying it to the point that we can easily observe the image, this luminaire significantly improves the level of infra red light.

Night Vision imageThis solar lighting covert infra red luminaire has no ongoing running costs being 100% powered by the Sun.

The Solar panel converts the naturally available sun light into electricity during the daylight hours, even on cloudy days, this solar panel charges long-life maintenance free batteries, which store the energy until it is needed to power the covert infra lighting source.

Applications

  • Airports;
  • Borders;
  • Desalination plants;
  • Government premises;
  • Law enforcement;
  • Military bases;
  • Oil refineries;
  • Ports;
  • Security;
  • Surveillance;
  • Wildlife observation.

Features

  • Cost effective;
  • Does not require any electrical infrastructure, mains grid cables and high voltage transformers;
  • Environmentally friendly: converts the natural energy of sun into electricity;
  • No on-going electricity costs;
  • Not subject to power failures;
  • Quick and easy to install, minimal ground works required;
  • Rapid deployment for temporary or permanent installations;
  • Self contained, each column works independently of other columns;
  • Simple plug and play electrical connections;
  • System includes solar panel, column, lamp assembly, maintenance free battery and wiring harness;
  • Using covert infra red, the luminaires are invisible when illuminated and will not be liable to inflicted damage;
  • Each individual lighting covert lighting luminaire has an independent dusk to dawn controller;
  • Each luminaire can be pre-programmed for specific on/off periods;
  • Battery capacity is specific site designated;
  • Battery typically provides 2 days back up from full charge, allowing for days of inclement weather conditions;
  • Pole diameter, height and spacing will vary dependant on local conditions and design solution;
  • Wall mounted luminaries are also available.

Typical Specifications
Illumination

  • With luminaires mounted on 6 metre height poles spaced at 300 metres, the use of Generation 3 Night Vision Goggles, Night Vision Binoculars, and Night Vision Scopes used by guarding patrols will be significantly enhanced.

Battery

  • The luminaire is powered by the most appropriate battery for the application, we can supply; marine gel, agm, NiMH or lead acid batteries. These may be pole mounted or housed in a waterproof enclosure that is buried in close proximity to the lighting pole;
  • The battery is protected from excessive discharge and over charge by the controller module;
  • The battery capacity is specific site designated, typically a 100 - 130ah @ C20 rate battery, may provide 2 days back up from full charge.

LuminaireWestminster International's Solar Powered Luminaire

  • The illumination is provided by 4 Generation 3 high power, high current emitters suitable for CCD/CMOS cameras
  • Luminaries are typically mounted on a 76mm diameter pole, the pole height and pole spacing will vary dependant on each individual solution design, wall mounted luminaries are also available;
  • The polycarbonate lens design protects against severe blows from crowbars, baseball bats and can even withstand successive shots from air pistols and rifles (range dependant);
  • High Definition Lighting allows cameras to provide crystal clear, high signal images during the hours of darkness; the breakthrough in HD lighting is made possible with this unit's high power LED technology delivering increased power on scene.

Controller

  • Each individual lighting luminaire has an independent dusk to dawn controller which is mounted in the waterproof enclosure together with the battery;
  • The control will automatically switch on the lamp during darkness and off during daylight;
  • The controller can also be pre-programmed for specific on/off periods.

Solar Panel

  • Constructed of 36 semi-crystalline silicon solar cells;
  • Tempered glass sub-strate is self cleaning, highly transmissive and impact resistant;
  • Anodised aluminium frame is corrosion resistant;
  • Easy to access and wire weatherproof terminal box;
  • Rugged and weatherproof construction;
  • The cells are laminated between sheets of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) and tempered glass with a durable back sheet;
  • Able to withstand repetitive cycling between -40°C and 90°C;
  • Able to withstand impact of a one inch hail stone at 52mph;
  • Meets ISPRA and JPL Block V test criteria and is approved by Factory Mutual Research for application in NEC Class 1, Division 2, Group D hazardous locations.

Solution Design

  • Each specific project is design engineered by Westminster to provide the required level of illumination, lighting duration and functionality;
  • The size of the solar panels and battery will be calculated using data based on the intensity and the number of hour's duration of the sun at the intended installation location, this information is available to us for any location in the world.
